General Studies
Students who are interested in the sports sciences may pursue the MSS General Studies track. Students in this track do so with the goal of graduate studies in the sports sciences, careers as personal fitness trainers or strength coaches, or coaching. Students interested in becoming physical therapists may select the MSS General Studies track or the Athletic Training major to fulfill many of the prerequisites for entrance into physical therapy graduate programs. The department chairperson designs the MSS General Studies major to meet the needs of the student's alternate career choice. Each major will prepare a student for graduate study in the Movement and Sports Science field. The course requirements are as follows:

MSS 151 Health and Physical Fitness Strategies (4)
MSS 230 Field Work and Foundations of Movement and Sports Science (4), or
MSS 235 Introduction to Athletic Training (4)
MSS 323 Scientific Principles of Movement (2)
MSS 345 Methods of Research, Assessment, and Evaluation (4)
MSS 380 Motor Development (4)
MSS 455 Kinesiology (4), or
MSS 456 Physiology of Exercise (4)
MSS 499 Senior Seminar (4)
Area 2 -- Activity/Teaching Experience Requirement:
Three semester hours from the following:
MSS 002-049 Instructional Activity courses (1)
MSS 050-079 Intercollegiate Sports (1)
MSS 370-373 Methods and Practice Teaching Courses (4)
Electives: A minimum of 15 semester hours in MSS or related courses.
