A Message from the Provost

The University of La Verne has a tradition of excellence since it was founded in 1891. For more than a century, La Verne has provided an enriching educational experience for its students, combining the benefits of a close-knit comprehensive university with a strong sense of community and outstanding student-faculty interaction featuring the highest quality teaching, scholarship and research.

La Verne is a distinctive private comprehensive university in California’s San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire. Our university addresses the workforce and professional needs of our California setting through a strong liberal arts core embedded in each of our four colleges. We provide an intimate setting and personalized learning experience characteristic of a private university to a culturally diverse student population. The University embraces this diversity and melds it into our vision for the future. The strong sense of community found here builds on the proud traditions that have marked the La Verne family for generations of students.

This is an exciting time for the University of La Verne and a period of dynamic change and growth. Our main campus, where traditional ivy-covered buildings take their place alongside our new state-of-the-art Campus Center, is a visual reminder of the University’s rich history in perfect harmony with its great promise for the future.

In 2009, Forbes Magazine rated the University of La Verne among the best colleges in America. The comprehensive study, involving most of the colleges and universities across the nation, based its rankings on the quality of education, the achievements of students and alumni, and the students’ satisfaction with their educational experience. At the University of La Verne, we strive to create the best possible experience for our students and to provide the highest educational value. We are justifiably proud of this distinction.

As provost for the University of La Verne, I have been impressed by the exceptional student experience that La Verne provides, and I am pleased to be a part of this exciting new chapter in the University’s history. Thank you for taking the time to read these web pages and learn about the difference our University makes in peoples lives. We are a university that pursues social equity by building competencies that enrich and deepen the lives and opportunities of our students.

Best regards,
Gregory Dewey, Ph.D.
