Pilots fight fire from the sky

Brackett Airport has served as a staging area for helicopters fighting the Morris Dam Fire, which started August 25, and the Station Fire, which broke out the next day. Pilot Kenny Chapman and co-pilot Gregg Deacon were among the first to be called and the last to leave the Station Fire, which was still burning on Wednesday.Chapman lives in Portland, Ore., and has been with Erickson Air-cranes for 30 years. Deacon lives in Las Vegas, and has been involved in firefighting, air ambulance, surveillance, capture and news.
