In an effort to showcase all that the University of La Verne has to offer, the Faculty Lecture Series in now available in iTunes.
Since the beginning of this semester, Director of the Institutional Review Board Fred Yaffe has received funding to record and produce the series.
“We haven’t done anything like this at La Verne,” Yaffe said. “Al Clark (associate vice president of academic affairs) was really excited about it, and found money to do it even after people said there was no funding.”
Yaffe said he is not a professional in the field of recording or producing these videos. But noticed back in August that the La Verne Web site did not showcase all that the University could accomplish.
In connection with the faculty research lectures, gallery openings and other assorted faculty events, Yaffe got the idea when he received an email from iTunes University.
It encouraged schools to use it’s numerous features to promote education through their teaching.
“You get to hear what the faculty is doing and you get to know the faculty and what they are researching,” Yaffe said.
“As students, we sometimes find it boring to listen to other people, but because it’s our faculty it makes it more interesting,” junior Araceli Sanchez said. “I think it’s a great idea.”
Not only is this new feature is a great way to showcase the faculty and arts of La Verne, but it also can serve as a promotion tool to entice future students, Yaffe said.
“That’s my hope: That people realize how powerful, important, and readily available this technology is for potential students,” Yaffe said.
“The incoming students can view it and get a taste of La Verne,” Sanchez said.
“For the people already here, it’s a different aspect of teaching and learning. It can really benefit both aspects.”
Yaffe is working with Melissa Zhuo and Clive Houston-Brown in the Office of Information and Technology to put the University of La Verne on the iTunes University Web site by the end of this month.
