‘The Soloist’

Students are invited to attend “The Soloist: Celebrating Beeth­oven and Virtuoso Double Bass” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Ludwick Conference Center. Dennis Trembly, the principal bassist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Grace Xia Zhao, a university artist-in-residence, will perform.

Harris Gallery

Seth Kaufman’s solo exhibit on display until Oct. 14 at the Harris Art Gallery. The exhibit is a series of sculptures created from unusual objects and includes Kaufman’s self-portrait on one wall. Admission is free.

909 Film Festival

The first 909 Film Festival will be held from 8 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Fox Theater in Pomona. All films have been shot and produced locally and two of the films were produced by University of La Verne graduates. For more information, visit 909junkie.com.

The Music of Alex North

The Academy of Motion Pictures will celebrate the career of composer Alex North at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. During his career, North was nominated for 15 Oscars for his work on films like “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Death of a Salesman.” The event will feature film clips and a discussion of his works. Tickets are $3 for students or $5 for the general public. For more information, visit oscars.org.

Rufio

The band Rufio will play at 6:30 p.m. today at the Glass House in Pomona. Tickets cost $13 in advance or $15 at the door. For more information, visit theglasshouse.us.
