The ninth time is a charm.

Coming off one of their most heartbreaking losses of the season, the Leopards came out with full force.

In the final game of the season, La Verne traveled to Whittier and dismantled the Poets, 49-23.

With the victory La Verne snaps a 19-game losing streak and marks the team’s first win since Nov. 1, 2008. Since the arrival of head coach Andy Ankeny in 2007, the Leopards also have gone 3-33.

La Verne controlled Whittier from the start of the game, running up 586 total yards of offense – a number ULV has not produced in a winning effort since the Ankeny regime took over.

On a total of 46 carries, the Leopards produced 380 net rushing yards – totaling an 8.3 yards per carry. Quarterback Thomas Arguello threw for 193 yards.

Junior Matt Griffin led the team with 727 total yards and eight touchdowns.

Sixteen seniors played their last game, one of whom was Devon Libran who was second on the team in yards rushing with 200 yards.
