The women’s water polo team defeated Macalester, 13-6 Saturday at the La Verne Aquatic Center.
The Leopards dominated the third quarter of the game.
The team managed to outscore the Scots 6-1, which gave La Verne a commanding 12-5 lead.
“There was definitely a lot of communication,” junior goalkeeper Jaqueline Rojas said. “We stepped up in the third period.”
With the score 6-4 heading into the second half the Leopards received six third quarter goals from four different players.
Freshman center Megan Little and sophomore attacker Lora Marquez-Salgado each had two goals in the quarter, respectively.
Junior defender Sarah Jefferis scored a goal in the quarter as well.
“We came out with a lot of energy,” Jefferis said. “We had control of the game the whole time.”
Jefferis tied Marquez-Salgado for a game-high of four goals.
“I felt really good out there today,” Jefferis said. “I couldn’t have scored all those goals without the support from everyone.”
This was La Verne’s second win in a row.
The Leopards also defeated Washington and Jefferson 8-4 on Friday.
Sophomore center Catie Tuning led the team in goals scoring three in the Leopards’ winning effort.
La Verne won three out of its five games over the week, including splitting a two-game set against Cal State East Bay on Sunday at Redlands.
The Leopards lost the first game 16-9 before winning the second, 11-10.
“Hopefully we can ride it into the main part of our schedule,” head coach Alex La said.

No Leopard had more than one goal in the contest.
