Fire rages in San Gabriel Canyon
A brush fire, dubbed the Madre Fire, started at around 6 p.m. Monday in San Gabriel Canyon above Azusa. The fire burned until Tuesday evening and charred more than 250 acres of chaparral. Professor of Biology Jeff Burkhart had maintained a kind of outdoor laboratory, a biotic environment, in the fountain located in the Johnson Family Plaza.
