The food here is say the least “Awesome!”. I’ve never experienced such delicious food in La Verne since attending college here. Not quite sure where the complaints come from but to my understanding this is not a fast food joint. If I needed a quick meal I would go to McDonalds or Panda Express if I wanted a meal within 5 mins. Lunch time does get really busy so sometimes there is a wait to get the food, but in my opinion is worth the wait. The owners have all been great to me and sometimes will give me a little extra to test the menu. And to the above comment hoping that Spooners will go out of business?!?!?! That’s like wishing someone to die, obviously did not take and ethics course…..Keep up the good work Spooner’s!

My full respects to the author to this author for putting her perspective on what is feels is unjustified. I have seen many events, actions, and many other things that have gone through without recognition by the University body, I speak from a personal perspective. But one should not expect recognition for a good deed; respect and good graces are earned by those actions. Just because I don’t recognized does not mean it should prevent me from the work I do, nor does it hurt my self esteem.

When it comes to the perspective of fraternities and sororities, I will say that they are not something I am against, but I would just never join a fraternity. Those who do, I have nothing against them. It is their choice, and I believe that all students should make the best of their experiences wherever they go, and if students choose the path of a sorority or a fraternity, more power to them.

With that said, you yourself have shown the presence and power of the Greek system on our own campus, where daily activities that provide ‘entertainment’ to the student body, and possesses great influence that can really shape this University. Students, faculty, and staff are aware of their presence, but there seems of be a greater focus on the very entertainment that you hardly talk about, rather than the philanthropic efforts.

Your definition of fun is not something all readers can agree with. It all depends on who comes, why they come, and what they want from the event (free food, free stuff in general). Students should definitely be entertained, but not to the point where the focus is only on that very entertainment. The Panhellenic Association should refer to the students and see what they want, to get a better idea of what should be one on campus.

If you see the opinions on our campus about the very fraternities and sororities you talk about, opinions vary significantly. I know of the philanthropic work done by fraternities and sororities, and commend the Greek organizations for what they have done to help a number of communities, but are heavily outweighed by the publicity, attention, focus, and intention, of the regular entertaining events, that are not even close to informative, unless it is purely philanthropic. Maybe a greater focus on philanthropic events, and greater community engagement, is necessary. No one said those events can’t be fun! You can grow gardens, do cleaning projects, go to community kitchens and help with preparing and serving food, and so much more.

My final point is in regard to the attention and community among the different organizations and clubs in terms of fraternities and sororities. I take leadership in more than a single club and would like to know the reach-out levels that the Greek organizations have had with these others clubs on campus, with or without having a member of that Greek org in that very same club or organizations. I am sorry to say that this is simply baseless. I have worked with many clubs that shown a FAULT THEREOF their participation or collaboration, to the point that ASULV and CAB are also accountable for, because even they, at times, do not put that focus forward.

Please do not take offense to my response, but a good deed never goes to waste. If your intention is to find attention for the fact that you got it, that is quite deplorable and insulting to me, and the community of people that volunteer on our campus who simply want to make a difference and put a positive impact on the communities that take great pride in being a part of. Do it for the smiling child or adult you help, not for the picture of your smiling face to be in a paper, or the mention of our group or individual name to be recognized. You will earn the good fruit of your labor in due time.

HPV is classified as an STD, it’s actually one of the most common STD among women. And education isn’t necessarily the answer. Most of us had sex education in high school, you can’t prevent people from making their own decisions. There’s no way to regulate this unless you are putting the condom on the kid yourself.

Service here is terrible, took 20 mins to get a water! I was there an hour and got my food 45 mins into my visit, which left me 10 mins to eat. They have one waitress, who is not attentive at all. Food is Ok.

hello and thanks for the post. first of all i would like to agree on some points of the article, it has been a terrible year for hip hop with no groundbreaking talent coming through and ye hip hop is more materialistic than ever.!
Also though hip hop is a music genre built out of protest! hip hop was made to fight the power etc , they did and they won. ever since hip hop artists have needed other topics such as money and women and life to make hits. There are many errors in this article:
- We are the Rosé Trio
- We performed 4 pieces, the last was a three-movement work by Shostakovich (arr. by Wallin Huff)
- The Marini work is titled “Sonata sopra la Monica”
- While I appreciate that others may not care for my style of composing, I really wish Danielle’s perspective of “Counterpoint Invariable” had been included; she was quoted when talking with Erica as saying that is was her favorite work of our program, and she gave her reasons. Not including another point of view implies that others find my work boring, which may be the case, but in my experience this is a rare point of view. Most others appreciate the complexity and careful detail woven into every work I do.
- Minor point: My last name is Wallin Huff. Not Huff. It’s an understandable error, but one that could have been easily clarified had I been asked.
- I found the paraphrase of us going “out drinking afterward” rather tactless…

Most everything could have been simply clarified had we been asked and had the facts not been merely assumed.

But I do very much appreciate the attendance of our concert. Thank you.

They really did well with part 4, and the graphics are great. The Multiplayer has almost a Halo 3 multiplayer feel, which is a great thing. 343 really went above and beyond with this one. When I played the demo at a co-workers house from DISH, it fired on all cylinders and what small negatives I encountered were far from game breaking. As usual, the storyline is a masterpiece. I don’t have the money to buy it right now but I did add it to my Blockbuster@Home rental service from DISH. It shouldn’t be too long from now before I see what the story is really all about for myself. I won’t say too much about the experience, but with side missions as well as the main story, it seems like this will provide a lengthy, satisfying experience.

Last time I went to this fair,I had a heat stroke
in the grandstand! Collapsed while the EMT,was taking care of two other people,who I had been helping. Biggest recommendation that I want everyone to know is to make sure you carry lots of fluids.Gatorade,is a cheap,excellent way to replenish the lost nutrients caused by being exposed
to hot weather. The day I had my heatstroke,I did not drink enough fluids. I had no warning.So,spend
time at the races and fair,with heed to the information I give you. It will save your life.

If you had come and listened to what Gilad had to say before the concert and met Gilad in person you definitely would have learnt something about him and his philosophy.

If you had attended the free concert by Gilad Atzmon and Professor Gayle Serden in Morgan Auditorium you would have enjoyed the excellent performance by a man accompanied by Professor Serden, who is considered to be the top saxophone player in Britain and possible Europe and perhaps the United States. For two outstanding musicians to meet about 15 minutes before the concert for the first time and perform beautifully, was such a pleasure to listen to and see.

If you had done so you would not be making such a spurious remark which sounds more like a cliche you copied from others which only reflects on your ignorance about Gilad Atzmon.

I have never heard Gilad Atzmon make one single Antisemitic or Racist remarks listening to him in person nor have I read any antisemitic nor racist remarks in the many of his articles which I have read nor in his Book The Wandering Who.

I suggest that you purchase The Wondering Who from Amazon.com and read it. The paperback sells for $8.49 from Amazon.Com. I will reimburse you for the cost of the book and shipping. Perhaps you will learn something about yourself and certainly about Gilad Atzmon.

Myself, along with many of my peers are thoroughly disappointed with the change in food offered at Barbaras place at the ULV main campus. There are not even salads available, the previous menu had different foods each day, tacos one day, chicken wraps the next, and it was wonderful. I enjoyed having the option for nutritious food instead of tacos and burritos. The menu should be changed back.

I just wanted to say thank you for honoring Harvel with such a great article. I have gone to school with her granddaughter Raeven since the first grade and have known that family for many years. It’s alarming to see how many people go through these kinds of hardships. It is no wonder that five percent of the U.S. population has depression issues, and many don’t seek outside help.

It also seems wrong that a doctor can prescribe medication for depression with the side effects of “suicidal thoughts”. That is entirely counter-productive and dangerous.

I got to see The Hunger Games after my 15 year old niece begged me. Not a bad movie, though I didn't think much of it from the trailers. I'm not familiar with the book, and it sounded like the Running Man from the 80s. Not certain if I will blog about the movie. But I give it a 4 out of 5.

Thank you so much for writing this article, it was great! I am President of the Residence Hall Association so when anything regarding housing makes the Campus Times I get super excited. One thing I wanted to point out, and was hoping that maybe you could help spread the word, was that here in the housing community we do not like to refer to our housing units as “dorms”; we like to call them “Residence Halls, or Res Halls for short. Trust me, you are not the only one who calls them dorms so I’m not offended or upset in any way but here at La Verne, the housing community takes pride in creating a “homey” atmosphere. We think dorm sounds dull and uninviting, kind of like a prison. Anywho, I just thought I’d share that with you! :o] Thank you again for writing the article and for giving us space on the front page! I think Dr. Dunn is correct. Food is far more than mere nutrient. It also has drug-like and hormonal effects and it is now abundantly clear that chemically pure nutrients like sucrose and glucose (in the form of fiber-less starch)are essential slow metabolic poisons that lead to insulin and leptin resistance.

I think the Federal Government shutting down medical marijuana is an absolute violation of Human rights and an outrage. Marijuana has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. There is a website called Marijuana Planet, http://www.marijuanaplanet.us that covers this subject well. The Federal Government has known that marijuana could cure cancer since 1974. Yet the DEA stops any reseach on it. There are hundreds of afflictions that marijuana could treat or cure. Yet these lawmakers forbid it. They make our children criminals over a plant given to us by God. They build prisons rather than schools. Shame on them. They are the criminals. Time to legalize now.

I take into consideration your opinion, but do believe that there is more to occupy than what you saw. The occupy movement was started to fight off the corporate America that we face today in order to help the less fortunate. Occupy Los Angeles holds daily meetings to discuss progress, actions, and plans in order to keep the protests in check and peaceful. I do believe that the smell wasn’t too great there, but that is because of the commitment that the occupiers have put towards the movement. They occupy the steps of city hall and chose not to move until progress towards equality is made. If you sit and talk to several occupiers, you will hear and go through the different stories of injustices that they have been through. Occupy LA might not have been what you expected it to be, but your post seems to put down or demean their efforts. Occupy LA will be strong and will strive. To learn more about the occupy movement, I urge everybody reading this to join the University of La Verne this Friday the 9th for a teach in and several speakers about the movement.

It’s great to add the social value to gaming, i remember the old arcades were a very social place for kids to hang-out. You still need that as a growing person, you need the interaction of a real person and experience life whether it is good or bad, you learn how to deal with it. Too many of our kids are stuck in their home without any real human interaction.
