Lowell Brubaker, a long-time University of La Verne Board of Trustees member, died at his home in Hillcrest in La Verne on Nov. 6 due to declining health. He was 94.

The devastating earthquake in Haiti has led the La Verne community – including the University of La Verne, city of La Verne and Church of the Brethren – to join hands and provide relief for the victims of this devastating natural disaster.

Myrna Long Wheeler, respected alumna and trustee of the University of La Verne, died Jan. 9 at her home in San Dimas after fighting acute myeloid leukemia for several months. She was 70.

On a chilly Saturday evening at the Church of the Brethren in La Verne, the University of La Verne’s music department hosted a Christmas concert with choir and instruments in an Antonio Vivaldi performance.

The La Verne Church of the Brethren is growing fresh produce in its new community garden called “Peace and Carrots,” and each gardener is donating 10 percent of their produce to local food banks.
