As the centennial for the University of La Verne debate team approaches, assistant professor of speech and debate Ian Lising has organized a series of faculty debates to celebrate the milestone.

Ryan Mansell, captain of the debate team, has been the key element maintaining the program’s stardom by displaying a few characteristics: determination, motivation, innovation and selflessness.

The debate team continued its tradition of success when two of its teams advanced to the elimination rounds at the United States National Open earlier this month.

Speech communications instructor Rob Ruiz was recently named director of forensics at the University of La Verne.

The University of La Verne debate team is elated by its recent victory at the United States Universities National Championships where team La Verne MT ranked fifth out of the 192 teams.

The debate team will part ways for the weekend as its members attend debate tournaments in New York and Oregon in order to prepare for the national championships.
