On Nov. 4 the Board of Trustees approved a 6.5 percent undergraduate tuition increase for the 2012-2013 academic year. Reasons for this increase range from a need to sustain education programs to improve the image of the University.

Many of La Verne’s athletic teams fundraise so that they can travel to far away places and stay overnight. This is extra work that the student athletes do not need to deal with.

Roynon Elementary School held its first Raccoon Rally, a walk-a-thon to help raise money for next year’s school programs.

On Monday, the Movement and Sports Science Society held a golf tournament to raise money for members to go to the California Associa­tion for Health, Physical Educa­tion, Recreation and Dance’s annual conference.

In response to last week’s editorial about the Spotted Pig on the Opinions page (“This little piggy has a problem,” Oct. 15), I would like to say that that campaign is not merely an effort to get your pocket change.

Recently many faculty members and students arrived to their offices, mailboxes and dorm rooms to discovered clear, plastic piggy banks with a note inside. The note explained the pig was from the University of La Verne Advancement department’s new Spotted Pig Campaign.
