Catcher for the University of La Verne baseball team, Joe Winterburn, visits his father, baseball head coach Scott Winterburn’s office. The Boston Red Sox drafted Winterburn as a catcher during the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, being the 41st Leopard to be drafted into MLB history. Senior catcher George Holland hits a double play grounder in the bottom of the fifth inning Saturday against Whittier. The Leopards played a split doubleheader Saturday at Ben Hines Field, facing both Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier. Junior Mark Jebbia pitched a shutout during the first seven innings against Cal Lutheran, only giving up hits and striking out 10; however, the eighth inning took a different turn with the Kingsmen scoring seven runs, which would leave the Leopards losing, 7-4.
