The modern languages department premiered the movie-musical comedy “El otro lado de la cama” Feb. 14 in the President’s Dining Room.

Andrea Labinger, professor of Spanish emerita, educated faculty and students on the multiple meanings of translation with her lecture “A Sense of Entitlement: Perlis and Pleasures of Title Translation,” on Monday.

Students gathered in the Arts and Communications Building Wednesday afternoon for the continuation of the Language and Cinemas film series presented by the department of modern languages.

Imagine being in a foreign country without knowing the language or the culture. This sense of alienation was the theme of the latest film in the Language and Cinema film series hosted by the department of modern languages.

A new Japanese language minor will be offered starting in fall 2012 at the University of La Verne.

Gabriela Capraroiu, associate professor of Spanish, discussed her current research translating Maria Teresa Leon’s travel memoir on communist Romania during her faculty lecture on Monday.

This year the University of La Verne added a new course to the modern language department. A group of 15 students enrolled in Japanese 100 with Gloria Montebruno, adjunct professor.
