La Verne’s Ortmayer Stadium was filled with an active home crowd Saturday as students, faculty and friends cheered on the track and field team against SCIAC rivals Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Caltech.

Traditional undergraduate tuition will be raised another 4.9 percent for the 2013-2014 academic year, University officials announced last month.

It has been more than six years since a track and field event has taken place on the La Verne campus. On Saturday, La Verne’s track and field team placed first in 14 events overall, hosting its first home meet since 2006 on the revamped Ortmayer Stadium.

Despite an aggressive offense and multiple saves from the goalkeeper, the women’s soccer team lost its final match of the season to Pomona-Pitzer by 1-0 Saturday at Ortmayer Stadium.

Despite showing major improvements, the Leopards suffered their first conference loss Saturday night, falling to Redlands, 40-21.

With the track and field season officially starting in February, the coaching staff for track and field is preparing by ordering the necessary equipment for meets.

Sept. 15 marked the opening football game for the Leopards with the introduction to the revamped Ortmayer Stadium. The Leopards played the Whitworth Pirates, losing the game 45-20.

The women’s soccer team embraced its revamped home with its third shutout victory of the season, winning 6-0 Saturday against Bethesda at Ortmayer Stadium.

After nine months of anticipation the refurbishment of Ortmayer Stadium is finally complete.

The $4 million project of refurbishing Ortmayer Stadium has been long awaited. For onlookers now it looks like a huge dirt field – but soon that dirt field will become home to all of La Verne’s field sports.
