New memories were made while old memories hung on the walls of the Carlson Gallery on Nov. 2, as alumni, students and faculty members gathered at the opening reception of “Alumni Allegories: Dissent.”

Los Angeles Times photographer Michael Robinson-Chávez had the opportunity to visit and photograph the barren mining city of Rinconada, located 17,400 feet above sea level in the Peruvian Andes.

Work by University of La Verne alumnus and award-winning photojournalist Alex Gallardo was displayed in “Eyes on the Ball,” an exhibit at the Carlson Gallery through May 20.
