Film festival features flicks of 909

The lights in the Benson Auditorium dimmed, and the audience silenced in anticipation. Sixteen short but brilliant films were about to play, representing the talented local filmmakers at this year’s 909 Film Festival last Friday night.

Artists practice otherworldly rituals

When you walk into Nichols Gallery, your eyes are immediately drawn to a black and white virtual image projected carefully high on the wall with a waterfall streaming down from the eyes of the man in the photo. The striking image on display is part of the current exhibition, “Synthetic Ritual,” at the Nichols Gallery in the Broad Center at Pitzer College.

Art exhibit exposes workers’ plight

“Worker” is a performance-based presentation that includes emerging artists James Gilbert and Jennifer Vanderpool’s sculptural elements, video and audio, creating an effective visual and aural experience throughout Jan. 27 until March 25 at the Lenzner Family Art Gallery at Pitzer College in Claremont.
