La Verne suffered a pair of losses over the weekend against Redlands and Whittier. The Bulldogs dominated the Leopards at the Claremont Club on Friday, 9-0, and the Poets continued dominance on Saturday, winning 7-2.
After a weekend of rainy weather, the sun was out on Tuesday when La Verne took first place in SCIAC No. 3 tournament at Sierra Lakes Golf Course.
To earn a postseason berth, the women’s basketball team needed all four quarters plus overtime to defeat Redlands, 78-77, on a game winning layup by senior forward Emily Carrillo.

In a game which both teams played great smashmouth defense, penalties by the Leopards and big plays from the Redlands Bulldogs’ defense proved to be the deciding factors Saturday as the Bulldogs defeated the Leopards, 27-7.
With little time to practice, the men’s water polo team has had a rough time opening up this season.
The La Verne Leopards took another tough hit as the men’s soccer team lost to Redlands on Wednesday, 3-2.
The Leopards won three in a row on Saturday to win the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament in Claremont against the Redlands Bulldogs.
The Leopards dropped two conference games in a Saturday doubleheader after losing its conference opener to last season’s champion, the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen, on April 3.
