To earn a postseason berth, the women’s basketball team needed all four quarters plus overtime to defeat Redlands, 78-77, on a game winning layup by senior forward Emily Carrillo.

The rain started in the fourth inning and did not let up last Friday at Ben Hines Field, cutting La Verne’s home conference opener short and handing them a 2-1 loss to Redlands.

The softball team earned its first victory of the season sweeping a doubleheader against Chapman by scores of 11-1 and 4-1 on Saturday.

The defense of the Stags was too much for the Leopards as they fell 56-48 in front of a crowd of 461 at Ted Ducey Gymnasium at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.

In a game that saw Emily Carrillo reach a milestone, the Leopards were not able to hold off Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday at Ducey Gymnasium, falling 71-66.

Six divers competed in the Southern California Intercolleg­iate Athletic Conference diving preliminaries last Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer, with three qualifying for the final meet.

In a game that was close throughout, with neither team gaining an advantage of more than five points, the Leopards earned a 58-55 win Saturday against Cal Lutheran, a team they previously lost to by 25.

The men’s basketball team’s three-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night against a hot Occidental team, by a score of 61-49.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished the season against Occidental on Saturday, at the La Verne Aquatics Center.
