The University of La Verne Community Responds

Dr. Steve Morgan, president of the University of La Verne.

In the wake of the destructive earthquakes in Haiti, members of the expanded University of La Verne community have been asking what they can do to help. Since the earliest news reports, students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni have been responding to this tragedy.

Under the direction of Campus Minister Debbie Roberts, university groups and organizations have stepped forward to assist relief efforts for those affected by this disaster. Aid in the form of supplies, medical and rescue personnel, transportation and shelter is being provided through the financial assistance of many generous individuals.

Such endeavors reflect the core values contained within La Verne’s mission statement, including care for the peace and health of people and the planet, appreciation of diverse people and cultures, and commitment to serving the human and ecological community. While the challenges created by this disaster will not be solved quickly or easily, I am sure the support and commitment of individuals and nations from across the globe will help the people of Haiti to find the strength and resources needed to rebuild their lives and their country.

Accompanying this message you will find links to a number of organizations active in the Haiti relief effort.

For more information about what members of the University of La Verne community are doing, you can contact Campus Minister Debbie Roberts by phone (909) 593-3511 ext. 4320 or e-mail droberts@laverne.edu.

Sincerely,

Steve Morgan
President
