Dr. Heidy Contreras receives NSF Research Opportunity Award

June 7, 2012 by academic-affairs

Dr. Heidy L. Contreras, Assistant Professor of Biology, received an NSF Research Opportunity Award to fund a project focused on energy prioritization in animals. Her work will be conducted in Dr. Goggy Davidowitz laboratory at the University of Arizona, summer 2012.  Two La Verne students, Sam Arcas and Jesus Bolanos, will be fully supported and will travel to the University of Arizona to conduct their research.  The $25,000 grant will be used to develop and test a conceptual model investigating how energy is distributed between two competing, energy-demanding, physiological processes.  For updates on Dr. Contreras’ (and her students) research please visit their blog at http://faculty.laverne.edu/hcontreras/
