La Verne Relay for Life Team Raising Money to Fight Cancer

February 8, 2013 by University of La Verne

What: La Verne and Claremont Relay for Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
When: Saturday, 9:00 a.m., April 27th through Sunday, 9:00 a.m., April 28th

Where: Claremont High School, 1601 N. Indian Hill Blvd., Claremont, CA 91711

Details:  Administrative Aide in Education, John Gilmore is leading the Cure-iffic! Relay for Life team, which is open to anyone in the La Verne community. “We want to try to get more people on board,” Gilmore said. “I’ve got a dynamic team.”

Those who sign up to be a part of the 24 hour event are not required to attend the event in April and are encouraged to participate in any way that works for them. Gilmore said teammates can choose to support financially and in-person or just financially.

“The event is like a festival with live music, food and camping out,” Gilmore added.

The sign-up fee is $10 and each member is given a goal of raising $100, but that is not a requirement to participate. There is no penalty for not reaching your goal. Ninety-four percent of the proceeds go directly to the American Cancer Society.

Gilmore hopes that more people will join the cause and represent La Verne in support of fighting cancer. He also encourages those interested to start their own teams.
