Lanney Mayer is Assistant Professor of Education and Regional Director for Teacher Education at the Newhall Campus. Lanney came to the University of La Verne with two professional interests. He was trained as a theologian and nearly completed doctoral work in Second Temple Judaism and Early Jewish Christianity at the Claremont Graduate School. He left that to raise his three sons as a single parent. With that background he joined the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) as teacher and administrator in Court and Community Schools. That led to completing doctoral work at UCLA where he began addressing matters of values in education. His research to date continues that trajectory having published articles on student culture as an educational product, values and religious faith and learning, and alternative education as the cutting edge. He currently teaches classes in the teacher Education Program and oversees student teaching classes where his experience developing educational programs and teams has proven useful.
