Prior to coming to the University of La Verne, Janet Trotter served as a teacher and counselor for seventeen years in the California public school system. Her emphasis on school safety and youth empowerment were the foundation for two violence prevention programs, Unity Forum and Girl Talk. She created these programs and continues to train middle and high school students and staff. Her Unity Forum program has been recognized by the Department of Justice as a recommended violence prevention program. In addition, she received a Distinguished Service Award for her district leadership in advocacy for school counseling and developing a district-wide emphasis on data, program development, and evaluation. She served as an adjunct instructor for ten years in Educational Counseling before joining the School Counseling (PPSC) program as a full-time faculty member.
