Prior to coming to the University of La Verne, Judy was a teacher in grades kindergarten through fifth grade in the Ontario-Montclair School District. She became a Math Lab Coordinator, a Reading Specialist, a Program Facilitator for Categorical Programs, a Vice Principal at two elementary sites, and a principal at Del Norte Elementary School in the Ontario-Montclair School District. She completed thirty years in the Ontario-Montclair School District before retiring in 1999.
In the winter of 2000, Judy came on board as an adjunct faculty member with the Teacher Education Program as a fieldwork supervisor in reading. She continued in this role until the winter of 2003 when she became a full-time Assistant Director of the graduate reading program under Dr. Jan Pilgreen for the Regional Center Administration. Judy established five graduate reading programs for the off-campus sites in Newhall, Palmdale, Ventura, Cerritos, and Bakersfield.
In the fall of 2006, Judy became an Assistant Professor as the Coordinator of the Off-Campus Teacher Education Reading Program. She hires and facilitates adjunct faculty and teaches reading classes at the five off-campus sites.
Judy has participated in reading comprehension presentations at several conferences with Dr. Jan Pilgreen and Amber Rodriguez. Presently, she is a member of the Staff Development Team and Steering Committee for the partnership with the charter school La Verne Preparatory Elementary School in Hesperia. She has presented reading workshops for the La Verne Preparatory Elementary School staff. She also is involved in developing a leadership team at the school site with Dr. Patricia Ensey.
Judy enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Chuck, four adult children, and nine grandchildren traveling and going to the beach. She is also an avid reader and loves the ongoing challenge and experience of the educational professional.
