Candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees reached for the stars at the University of La Verne’s 2014 Spring Commencement Saturday, May 30, 2014. With a keynote address by NASA Astronaut Jose Hernandez, students and their families were inspired by the former migrant farm worker – who charged everyone to dream big and work hard to reach their full potential. His triumphant story of growing up as a migrant farm worker and reaching his dream of going into space set the tone for the big day.
“Take advantage of life’s opportunities and the people who want to help you,” Hernandez said, acknowledging that no one person can achieve greatness by themselves.
Hosted at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, degrees were conferred during two ceremonies honoring candidates from the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Business & Public Management and College of Education & Organizational Leadership.
“On this very special day, we gather together as the La Verne family to celebrate your accomplishments, as you commence the beginning of so many opportunities as a graduate of the University of La Verne,” President Lieberman said.
The Class of 2014 joins a vast network of more than 60,000 University of La Verne alumni worldwide.
