Dear ULV Community,<\/span><\/p>\n While the fires in Los Angeles County are not in close proximity to our university, their effects are being felt on campus. While the fires to the west do not pose an immediate threat to our area, they may be affecting air quality, which remains moderate. Normal operations will continue on the main campus tomorrow. However, we encourage everyone to be aware of their surroundings when outdoors.<\/span><\/p>\n Please take note of the following recommendations:<\/span><\/p>\n For Staff\/Faculty: If your home\/area has been affected by the current conditions, please coordinate with your supervisor to address any challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n For Students: If the weather conditions are impacting your ability to meet academic commitments, please reach out to your professor directly to discuss accommodations.<\/span><\/p>\n College of Law: Monitor your email for any specific instructions related to your area. As of now, normal operations are planned for tomorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n Ruben Ibarra<\/span> The wind conditions have improved, with speeds now reduced to 3-20 mph and are expected until tomorrow evening. Campus Safety and Facilities teams are actively surveying the campus, addressing hazards from fallen tree limbs and branches. Our landscaping contractor has also dispatched additional staff to assist with cleanup efforts. Power outages affecting traffic signals have been reported. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:<\/span> For additional weather updates, visit the National Weather Service.<\/span> Ruben Ibarra<\/span> As of this morning, the power has been restored to Barkley building, Barkley Annex, Leo Hall and the Arts and Communications building.<\/span><\/p>\n Nov. 12, 2024 – 10:40 AM UPDATED<\/span><\/p>\n Due to an incident involving a City of La Verne line behind Barkley Building, there is a currently is a power outage that is affecting the following buildings:<\/span><\/p>\n Edison is currently onsite addressing the power outage and are working to restore power. They have notified us that power will most likely be down for the remainder of the day and possibly a portion of tomorrow.\u00a0 <\/span>We will keep the community appraised of any updates or changes to the timeline.<\/span><\/p>\n If you have a meeting or class in any of those locations, please contact organizer or professor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The fire continues to move away from the City and minimize any danger to our community. The air quality has improved and is currently at \u201cModerate\u201d levels. It is expected that the air quality will remain good through the weekend. Normal operations and activities will continue as planned throughout the weekend. If there are any significant changes, you will be notified.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Earlier this morning there was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake west of the university in the Thousand Oaks area that was felt by our community.\u00a0 Campus Safety, Housing, and Facilities followed their protocols and determined there was no damage or impact to the university.\u00a0 We remain under normal operations.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n La Verne Fire Authorities have indicated the fire has moved north and there is no immediate threat to the city or university. A small fire north of Claremont has triggered that area to receive Evacuation Warnings which is expected for the next few days.<\/span><\/p>\n The air quality has improved in the area but continue to use caution.<\/span><\/p>\n Please follow the ULV Alert to receive additional information.\u00a0<\/span>https:\/\/laverne.edu\/alert\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Although the fire has grown, there is no immediate threat and no need to evacuate.\u00a0 Some areas in the furthest northern part of the city are only getting Evacuation Warnings.\u00a0 The university is maintaining normal operations.\u00a0 The air quality has improved to Moderate.<\/p>\n Please go to the following links to get updated air quality, smoke advisory, and an app for real time air quality in your area:<\/p>\n The Bridge Fire continues to burn north of La Verne and has spread over 30,000 acres. Although the fire is not immediately near the city, portions the north end of La Verne may receive an Evacuation Warning Alert. Despite the notices, the University remains safe and we continue to actively monitor the situation with the police and fire department. The air quality remains poor so please monitor your activity. Stay Hydrated and remain indoors if possible. Please guard your health and hydrate. You will be notified of any changes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Due to the Line Fire in San Bernardino and the Bridge Fire in Angeles National Forest (North of La Verne), the air quality remains unhealthy. Please guard your health while delivering and participating in educational programs.
