Miller Analogies Test Information

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level test of analytical ability that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. The test measures your ability to recognize relationships between ideas, your fluency in the English language, and your general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. The delivery of the MAT administered by the Academic Success Center is computer-based and consists of 120 partial analogies that you have 60 minutes to complete.

MAT Preparation

On-Campus Location and Parking

The computer lab used for MAT testing is located next door to the Academic Success Center on the second floor of the Sarah and Michael Abraham Campus Center Building, room CC216.  Parking in university lots requires a parking pass.  There is some three-hour on-street hour parking to be found near the campus.  The examinee is solely responsible for any parking citations issued either in university lots or on La Verne streets.

When you Should Arrive and What to Bring

You should arrive 20 minutes prior to the exam start to allow time for check-in and any required instruction from exam proctors. Exams will begin promptly at the indicated start time.  Exam entrance requires an admission ticket along with two forms of valid ID.

The primary ID must be a valid, unexpired official government-issued bearing your name, photo, and signature (for example, passport, driver’s license, military ID, etc.). The secondary ID must bear your name and contain current information (for example, any unused primary ID, credit card, library card, utility bill with your current address, etc.) The names on both IDs and the name on your admission ticket must all be the same, and both IDs must be originals. Examinees will not be allowed to begin testing without proper identification and testing will not be delayed waiting for an examinee to present photo identification.

You will be provided scratch paper and pencils to use during the exam.  Do not bring food, drink, books, cell phones, paper, personal items (except identification) or any other electronic devices.

Scores

Upon completion of the exam, you will receive a Preliminary Score Report. The scores on this report are still pending verification by Pearson and therefore are not official and cannot be presented as a substitute for an Official Transcript. Your official Score Report will be mailed to you 10-15 business days from the date Pearson receives your test.

All inquiries about scores should be directed to Pearson at 1-800-622-3231. University of La Verne  Academic Success Center staff cannot interpret test results. Each college or department requiring the MAT determines qualifying scores.

Retest Policies

All testing fees must be paid for each attempt of the MAT.
