Take part in ULV’s Season for Nonviolence beginning Feb. 4 at 12 noon. The Season for Nonviolence is a 64-day period commemorating the assassinations of nonviolent leaders Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, 1948, and Martin Luther King, Jr., on April 4, 1968. The goal of the Season for Nonviolence is to encourage individuals and communities to learn about the nonviolent philosophies Gandhi and King drew upon to transform the world.
The Gandhi Foundation of Canada notes that “a culture of peace of nonviolence is created one choice at a time, one action at a time and one day at a time.” To that end, participants in La Verne’s Season for Nonviolence will learn about ways to practice nonviolence daily, in thoughts, words, and deeds.
Participants will receive a “weekly digest” with quotes, reflections, affirmations, and suggested actions, and will have the chance to attend three live sessions via Zoom, facilitated by Dr. Christian A. Bracho, Associate Professor in the LaFetra College of Education. Dr. Bracho is co-editor of Teachers Teaching Nonviolence (DIO Press, 2020), a volume of narratives by educators about nonviolence education. Some of the teachers featured in the volume will join as guest speakers at the 2nd and 3rdsession. Each session builds on the previous workshop. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions.
