SUMMARY:Sant Khalsa
DESCRIPTION:The Photography Department hosts a conversation with Sant Khalsa via Zoom. The event is hosted by Andrew K. Thompson and is open to the public. \nAttend the Event \nAbout the Speaker\nSant Khalsa’s artworks derive from her impassioned inquiry into complex environmental and societal issues. Typical to her art practice and process\, photo-based works evolve through in-depth research\, creative investigation and personal experiences. \nKhalsa’s artworks are the visual artifact of her relationship with place – her observations\, perceptions\, and interpretations. Her artworks are intended to create a contemplative space where one can sense the subtle and profound connections between oneself\, the natural world and our constructed environments; activating individual action and political change that protects and defends our fragile life-sustaining ecosystems. Khalsa will discuss the development of her ideas and contemporary approach to landscape photography. \nSant Khalsa’s artworks are widely exhibited\, published and acquired by museums including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, Center for Creative Photography in Tucson\, Nevada Museum of Art\, and UCR California Museum of Photography. \nKhalsa has been awarded fellowships and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts\, California Arts Council\, California Council for the Humanities and was the inaugural recipient of the Society for Photographic Education Insight Award for her significant contributions to the field of photography. \nShe is Professor of Art\, Emerita at California State University\, San Bernardino\, where she taught for three decades\, and established the MFA in Studio Art program\, public art project and served as Art Department Chair. \n
