{"id":77,"date":"2011-06-05T19:17:06","date_gmt":"2011-06-06T02:17:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/financial-aid\/"},"modified":"2022-06-01T16:28:48","modified_gmt":"2022-06-01T23:28:48","slug":"cal-grants","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/financial-aid\/cal-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"California State Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Cal Grant program is funded by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/cal-grants\">eligible<\/a> California residents pursing an undergraduate degree.\u00a0Have more questions about the Cal Grant?\u00a0 Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/post\/faq\">Cal Grant FAQ<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/cal-grants\">Eligibility<\/a> is determined by CSAC and they will notify you directly of your preliminary Cal Grant eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>Two types of Cal Grants are available to students at La&nbsp;Verne:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cal Grant A<\/strong> (for middle-income and high-need students)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cal Grant B<\/strong> (for disadvantaged and high-need students).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0You may receive a Cal Grant for up to four (4) years<\/strong> (fifth additional year may be granted if you qualify and are pursuing a Teaching Credential).<\/p>\n<p><strong>You must be enrolled at least half-time<\/strong> (6 units per semester (or 4 units per term if you&#8217;re in a term based program) to be eligible unless you are a graduating senior in your final semester.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Apply for a Cal Grant<\/h3>\n<p>If you are an incoming freshman\/transfer undergraduate student or a current La&nbsp;Verne undergraduate student who has not been awarded a Cal Grant, follow these simple steps to apply for a Cal Grant:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">FAFSA<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/california-dream-act\">CA Dream Act Application<\/a> by <strong>March 2<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Submit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/post\/cal-grant-gpa-verification-form\">Cal Grant GPA Verification Form<\/a> to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) by <strong>March 2<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Students new to La\u00a0Verne as of the winter or spring terms:<\/strong> Your GPA Verification must be certified by your previous school of attendance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transfer or continuing students with less than 24 cumulative units earned and\/or transferred to La&nbsp;Verne<\/strong> as of the end of the fall term: Your GPA Verification must be certified by your high school.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Continuing La\u00a0Verne students with MORE THAN 24 cumulative units<\/strong>\u00a0earned and\/or transferred to La\u00a0Verne as of the end of the fall term: La\u00a0Verne will upload your GPA Verification information electronically to the California Student Aid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Managing your Cal Grant Award<\/h3>\n<p>Your Cal Grant eligibility can be viewed and managed at <a href=\"https:\/\/mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov\/\">WebGrants 4 Students.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Be sure to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confirm your school of attendance is set to <em>University of La&nbsp;Verne<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Complete your high school graduation certification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Renew a Cal Grant<\/h3>\n<p>Students who have been awarded a Cal Grant A or B in the previous aid year will automatically be considered for a Cal Grant in the following aid year if the student meets the\u00a0following qualifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">FAFSA<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/california-dream-act\">CA Dream Act Application <\/a><\/li>\n<li>Continue to meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csac.ca.gov\/cal-grants\">eligibility requirements<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Have remaining Cal Grant eligibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Current La\u00a0Verne students with a Cal Grant are not required to submit a GPA Verification Form.
