A Message to Adjunct Faculty from Provost Reed

Dear Adjunct Faculty:

On behalf of the University of La Verne, I want to thank you for your efforts and dedication to our students and mission during the global coronavirus challenge. We have prioritized the safety of our students, faculty, and staff safe while continuing to deliver a quality and personal education. The precautions we have taken, while difficult, will help to save lives.

I understand that the current situation has been particularly difficult for adjunct faculty. You are transitioning to fully online and may not have been able to attend the Center for Teaching and Learning’s scheduled workshops, or know where to turn to for support or resources. In addition, you are just becoming acclimated to the Kronos hourly wage system and new university policies.

Getting your classes online and responding to concerned students is the university’s priority. If you are spending more time than anticipated in Blackboard workshops or WebEx trainings to move your courses online, log those hours in Kronos. If you are responding to student inquiries more than usual, please log any hours in Kronos. We have advised supervisors, chairs, and payroll that they may see more hours logged than usual due to moving classes online.

The university has provided guidance on anticipated hours worked for online classes (based on the number of students). Please know that in these unique circumstances we understand that there may be variance.

Put your students first, focus on educational quality, use the support provided by the university including the Center for Teaching and Learning, and log any hours accordingly.

Once again, thank you for all you do for our students.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Reed
Provost
