The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, otherwise known as the CARES Act was passed by both chambers of the 116th<\/sup> Congress as House Resolution (H.R.) 748, and signed by former President Trump into law on March 27, 2020.\u00a0 The purpose of the passage of the CARES Act was to provide fast and direct economic assistance for American workers, families, and businesses, because of the economic impact resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

Section 18004<\/strong> of the CARES Act specifically established the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)<\/strong>, which instructs the US Department of Education to allocate funding to eligible institutions of higher education to prevent, prepare for, and respond to costs associated Covid-19. \u00a0<\/strong>H<\/strong>EERF<\/strong> has become synonymous for the emergency federal support received by American colleges and universities for the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus.\u00a0 These are the three primary Acts that were signed into law for HEERF <\/strong>funding, along with the dates and the president that signed them:<\/p>\n

    CARES (HEERF I)<\/h2>\n

    The University of La\u00a0Verne was granted the following CARES awards by the US Department of Education:<\/p>\n
