{"id":2255,"date":"2025-05-04T22:07:40","date_gmt":"2025-05-05T05:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/health\/?page_id=2255"},"modified":"2025-09-10T10:58:55","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T17:58:55","slug":"acute-illness","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/health\/acute-illness\/","title":{"rendered":"Acute Illness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling ill, suffered an injury, CALL the STUDENT HEALTH CENTER (SHC) to make a same day appointment.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>No walk-in appointments.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Call early for a same-day appointment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acute illnesses\/concerns are health conditions, injuries or illnesses, that develop quickly. <span>\u00a0<\/span>SHC provides treatment for the most common injuries or illnesses encountered in university students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are <strong>common examples of acute illnesses<\/strong> that are managed at ULV <strong>student health center<\/strong> includes:<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Respiratory infections<\/strong> \u2013 common cold, influenza symptoms, asthma symptoms<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gastrointestinal issues<\/strong> \u2013 food poisoning, abdominal concerns, diarrhea, nausea\/vomiting<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ear, nose, and throat problems<\/strong> \u2013 ear pain and other symptoms, sore throat, sinus symptoms, allergic reactions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eye problems<\/strong> \u2013 eye redness, eye discharge, change in vision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Skin conditions<\/strong> \u2013 rashes, allergic reactions, insect bites\/stings, cellulitis, minor burns<\/li>\n<li><strong>Urinary tract infections (UTIs)<\/strong> \u2013 sudden onset pain or burning with urination<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)<\/strong> \u2013 new symptoms such as discharge, sores, or painful urination<\/li>\n<li><strong>Injuries<\/strong> \u2013 sprains, strains, joint pain, minor cuts\/lacerations<\/li>\n<li><strong>Asthma attacks<\/strong> \u2013 sudden shortness of breath or wheezing<\/li>\n<li><strong>Migraine or acute headaches<\/strong> \u2013 sudden severe headache requiring evaluation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fever of unknown origin<\/strong> \u2013 acute onset of high temperature needing assessment<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mental health <\/strong>\u2013 a new onset of feeling anxious without chest pain, without shortness of breath<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are <strong>common examples of acute injuries <\/strong>that are managed at ULV <strong>student health center<\/strong> includes:<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Slip and falls with musculoskeletal injuries without head injury, without loss of consciousness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Musculoskeletal sprains\/strains\/contusions (call the SHC for severity assessment)<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Feeling ill, suffered an injury, CALL the STUDENT HEALTH CENTER (SHC) to make a same day appointment.\u00a0 No walk-in appointments.\u00a0 Call early for a same-day appointment.
