Follow steps 1-7 below to guide\/approve students submitting an application<\/h2>\n

1. Have h<\/strong>uman subjects training certificate on file<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

All faculty who are working with students on projects must have a human subjects training certificate on file with the La Verne\u00a0IRB. Click\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0to be directed to the instructions for obtaining a human subjects training certificate.<\/p>\n

2. Select the type of application appropriate for the student<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Graduate Capstones\/Senior Thesis\/Classroom Projects:<\/h4>\n

A policy, the\u00a0IRB Instructor Protocol for Reviewing Student Applications,<\/a>\u00a0has been created to assist instructors in approving student projects, filing the Mentor Approved form with the IRB, and deciding if a project should be submitted for review by the IRB.<\/p>\n

If a project needs to be submitted to the IRB (as per the instructor protocol document) this should be done within the first month of the semester\/term. For non-class based capstones and senior theses, it should be submitted two months prior to the student collecting data for expedited and standard reviews. This is the standard turn around time for these types of projects when factoring in student response time to revisions. Exempt protocols tend to be faster as they use a streamlined application.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations<\/h4>\n

Committee Chairs will review student Initial Applications PRIOR<\/strong><\/span> to submission to the IRB, request revisions from students as appropriate ensuring students are following correct La Verne IRB policies and procedures, and approve the application prior to submission for IRB review.\u00a0 Further, if revisions are required from the student, committee Chairs will review the revisions ensuring all revisions have been made prior to resubmission to the IRB, and only approve the application once all revisions are made. Committee Chairs will need to approve each revision made by the student.<\/p>\n

3. Refer to\u00a0IRBManager 101<\/a>\u00a0for how to login to IRBManager. You may also click on the IRBManager logo to access the site<\/strong><\/h3>\n

4. Approve all applications and revisions students submit \u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Advisors\/Mentors\/Chairs will receive notification emails to approve student applications and can view a status from their\u00a0Dashboard of a student’s application if needed (see the instructions for\u00a0checking a status of an application<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>for more information on checking a status). To approve an application, review the following instructions based on application type:<\/p>\n

Undergraduate and Graduate Capstone Mentor Approved applications<\/strong>\u00a0step-by-step guide<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0video<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

5. Review the following if you can\u2019t find the IRBManager email to approve your student\u2019s application or are having trouble accessing the student\u2019s application<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you cannot find the IRBManager issued email or you are having trouble accessing your student\u2019s application, please read the tutorial on using the Dashboard, below (if\u00a0 you have never learned about the Dashboard). Then, click on the Dashboard screenshot to see where the application is sitting in your Dashboard.<\/p>\n

    6. Address revisions for the Initial Application with Masters Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation Students<\/strong><\/h3>\n

     <\/p>\n

    There are two types of revisions that your student may receive from the review process in IRBManager. Please select the tutorial below to learn how to read and use the revisions. These tutorials are based on the subject line and content of the email received from the La Verne\u00a0IRB.<\/p>\n

    NOTE<\/strong>:\u00a0If applicants wait more than six months to submit revisions, they will be required to submit a new application in IRBManager and undergo a new review. The outcome may change with the new review, necessitating more revisions from the applicant.<\/p>\n
