Summer Bridge

Summer Bridge is a three-week online program designed to give new students a head start on acclimating to college life and preparing for academic success.

At Summer Bridge, you will take a no-credit math and writing seminar thought by University of La Verne faculty, and participate in workshops addressing topics related to social justice, well-being, and leadership. These activities are designed to help you establish a learning community with students, staff, and faculty who will support you through your time at University of La Verne.  

Those who enroll in Summer Bridge will have access to additional benefits during the school year, including:

  •  An opportunity to participate in the Peer Mentoring Program, which will pair you with an on-campus mentor through your first two years at La Verne
  •  Additional academic and social support throughout the year
  •  Ongoing programming to assist in your academic, professional, and social development
  •  Regular check-ins with office staff

Summer Bridge 2021 will be held online this summer and will be open to all incoming first-year students.

Weekly Schedule

All sessions are 1 hour and 15 minutes with a 30-minute break between sessions.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

  • Math and writing course: University professors will work with you to teach you skills for success
  • Financial Literacy

Tuesdays

  • Decoding My Campus: Meet staff and faculty from across campus and learn about campus resources and how and when to utilize them, current issues and how to apply your knowledge, awareness, and leadership to create change
  • Real Talk Tuesdays: You’ll have the opportunity to select an identity-based group. In these groups led by returning students, you’ll get the inside scoop on what being a Leo is all about: discuss weekly themes, challenges faced during the first year and how to overcome them, what it’s like to be a first-generation student, and much more
  • Team Tuesday: Meet with First Gen staff for a recap of the week and reflective activities—this is an additional opportunity to ask questions, share your concerns, and most importantly continue to establish your community

Thursdays

  • OUR Stories: Learn about histories related to social justice, movement history, and intersectional histories to better understand our identities
  • Real Talk: You’ll have the opportunity to select an identity-based group. In these groups led by returning students, you’ll get the inside scoop on what being a Leo is all about: discuss weekly themes, challenges faced during the first year and how to overcome them, what it’s like to be a first-generation student, and much more
  • Team Thursday: Meet with First Gen staff for a recap of the week and reflective activities—this is an additional opportunity to ask questions, share your concerns, and most importantly continue to establish your community
