Los Angeles County residents can cast their ballots in the California General Election at the University of La Verne on November 5-8.<\/p>\n

For the first time, the university will serve as a national polling station, which was made possible by a partnership between Los Angeles County and the university. All eligible voters will be able to visit the first floor of the Sara and Michael Abraham Campus Center<\/a> to cast their ballots.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Leos, I hope we rock the vote and carry out our value of civic and community engagement by participating in our democratic privileges,\u201d said Julissa Espinoza, director of the university\u2019s Office of Civic and Community Engagement.<\/p>\n

Efforts to establish the university as a polling station were led by the Office of Civic and Community Engagement and Office of Spiritual Life as part of a broader commitment to build and encourage civic participation for both the university and greater community.<\/p>\n

This year, two student ambassadors, Alisha Anne Concepcion \u201924 and Xyrah Mae Balangue \u201925, from the Vote Is Sacred Project<\/a>,<\/span> have been engaging peers in conversations about voting with the purpose of \u201cbridge-building and creating understanding,\u201d University Chaplain Zandra Wagoner said. This national nonpartisan civic engagement initiative is grant-funded for these students and aims to activate higher education and faith communities to vote.<\/p>\n

Individuals can register to vote on campus if they are a United States citizen and a resident of California, 18 years old or older on Election Day, not currently in state or federal prison, and not subject to a conservatorship.<\/p>\n

Any college student may register to vote using their college residence address or may choose to use their family residence. California law allows college students to establish domicile or legal residence where they attend school if they so desire.<\/p>\n

There is no waiting period to register to vote, as individuals may register or re-register to vote at any time. To be eligible to vote in an election, you must have registered 15 days before Election Day.<\/p>\n

The last day to register to vote for the November 8 General Election is October 24. Early voting begins on November 5 and ends on November 8.<\/p>\n
