A caged area perched on Wilson Library\u2019s top floor holds thousands of historical books, documents, photographs, and other artifacts connected to the University of La Verne and surrounding community.<\/p>\n
It is called Archives and Special Collections, a department headed by Ben Jenkins, University Archivist and assistant professor.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of the items in Archives and Special Collections are unique, and cannot be found anywhere else,\u201d Jenkins said.\u00a0\u201cThe department shares a wide variety of primary sources to educate students, scholars, and members of the La Verne community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jenkins opened the archives to the campus community Oct. 25, giving professors and students a peek at the university\u2019s rich history. It gave adjunct professor of public relations Randy Miller a chance to gaze at a 1944 yearbook, which featured his mother among the graduating class.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving the opportunity to find out the origin of the University of La Verne at your fingertips is simply amazing,\u201d Miller said.<\/p>\n
Jon Hall, a sophomore history major, also decided to check out the collection.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis archive center is a great primary source to have, and it\u2019s also very accessible online,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
