Attorney, political activist, and former Presidential candidate Ralph Nader visited the University of La Verne on Feb. 22 to speak about the current political climate and how people can become more empowered.<\/p>\n

Nader, 82, author of \u201cBreaking Through Power: It\u2019s Easier Than We Think,\u201d spoke to students, faculty, and staff, who filled Morgan Auditorium. A reception and book signing followed from 1 to 1:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

Dr. Matthew Witt, professor of public administration, said Nader\u2019s work would be of interest to the University of La Verne community, from his career as a consumer advocate to fighting for the disenfranchised.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor over 50 years, Ralph Nader has been a constant tribune of the people\u2019s welfare and interest; a polestar for this nation\u2019s best hopes and virtues,\u201d Witt said.<\/p>\n

Nader, who has been honored by Life magazine as one of the \u201c100 Most Influential Americans of the 20th<\/sup> Century,\u201d has led movements for consumer rights, open government, and humane business practices. His work has helped to shape national policies on car safety, food labeling, and public health campaigns.<\/p>\n
