Two University of La Verne alumni won awards from the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts, and current students and faculty have been named finalists for seven Western Access Video Excellence (WAVE) Awards.<\/p>\n

Daisy Moreira \u201917 received a second place award<\/a> in the air personality category for a 3-hour weekly LeoFM show that she hosted as part of her radio broadcasting major, BEA officials announced on Feb. 8. Stephanie Lopez-Ruvalcaba \u201916 won an award of excellence<\/a> in the specialty program category for her radio show \u201cNoches de Rock.\u201d Lopez-Ruvalcaba\u2019s show featured Spanish rock music and some artist interviews, and was part of her radio broadcasting major coursework.<\/p>\n

The BEA festival is considered the world\u2019s largest digital media and broadcast competition for students and faculty. The organization received 1,530 entries in 2016, said Mike Laponis, professor of communications.<\/p>\n

University of La Verne communications department students and faculty members are finalists for seven\u00a0WAVE awards. The awards are open to residents of California, Nevada, Colorado, Hawaii New Mexico, and Arizona.<\/p>\n

Winners will be announced at the Alliance for Community Media West region conference in Fresno on March 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to be recognized for you work,\u201d said Shane Rodrigues, operation manager and adjunct communications department professor. \u201cIt\u2019s especially gratifying when we win awards for productions where we collaborate with our students.\u201d<\/p>\n
