Now in its seventh year, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance<\/a> (VITA) program is again available at the University of La\u00a0Verne for local, eligible taxpayers to receive free tax services.<\/p>\n

The VITA program at La\u00a0Verne is available on Saturdays from February 3 through April 7. All tax preparation services are provided from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Cogley Building, 2180 Third St. in La\u00a0Verne.<\/p>\n

Scheduling an appointment time is strongly encouraged. While walk-ins are welcome, they will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/p>\n

What is VITA?<\/h3>\n

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is an IRS\u2010sponsored community program that helps low -to- moderate-income (generally annual income is no greater than $54,000) families and individuals located in La\u00a0Verne and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n

What is the cost?<\/h3>\n

All volunteers are IRS certified and will assist with both e\u2010filing and paper filing at no cost to the taxpayer.<\/p>\n

How to make an appointment<\/h3>\n

You can make an appointment by calling (909) 448\u20104028, or by emailing us at VITA@laverne.edu<\/a>. Walk\u2010ins will be accepted on a first\u2010come first serve basis.<\/p>\n

What to bring to the first day of your appointment<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Proof of identity (such as a valid driver\u2019s license or other government issued picture ID)<\/li>\n
  • Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents and\/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration<\/li>\n
  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents<\/li>\n
  • Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN<\/li>\n
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return<\/li>\n
  • Wage and earning statement (s) Form W\u20102, W\u20102G, 1099\u2010R, from all employers<\/li>\n
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)<\/li>\n
  • A copy of last year\u2019s federal and state returns if available<\/li>\n
  • Bank routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit<\/li>\n
  • Total amount paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider\u2019s tax identifying number (the provider\u2019s Social Security Number or the provider\u2019s business Employer Identification Number)<\/li>\n
  • Tuition Expenses<\/li>\n
  • Form 1095A<\/strong> \u2013 issued by the Marketplace if you purchased health care insurance through the Marketplace in 2014<\/li>\n
  • Exemption Certificate Number (ECN) <\/strong>\u2013 issued by the Marketplace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    To file taxes electronically for a married couple filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.<\/p>\n
