According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/pi\/ses\/resources\/indicator\/2019\/12\/college-students-needs\">American Psychological Association<\/a>, \u2153 of college students struggle to have their basic needs met. Now more than ever people are seeking assistance in gaining\/maintaining food, housing, utilities, resources, etc. Those experiencing these difficulties are encouraged to reach out for support.<\/p>\n<p>Looking for mental health &amp; well-being resources? Telemedicine allows students to call or chat about symptoms as a way to triage when in-person care is really needed. Appointments may also be made for assistance with medical prescriptions refills and medical referrals (as appropriate). All enrolled University of La&nbsp;Verne students, regardless of program, campus, or citizenship, are eligible to apply. Often referred to as the &#8220;Airbnb of storage&#8221;, this company offers a way for students to find the perfect storage option, both in terms of price, flexibility, or location. See all of their available options on their website<a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighbor.com\/self-storage\"> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Spectrum Internet Assist<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spectrum.com\/internet\/spectrum-internet-assist\">Spectrum Internet Assist program<\/a> provides reliable, high-speed internet access at an affordable price for those who qualify.<\/p>\n<h3>Internet Essentials From Comcast<\/h3>\n<p>Eligible new customers will receive 60 days of <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.comcast.com\/covid-19\">Internet Essentials service<\/a>, the internet adoption program for low-income households, without charge. And they have increased the speed of this internet service for all customers.<\/p>\n<h3>EveryoneOn<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.everyoneon.org\/\">EveryoneOn<\/a> is a nonprofit dedicated to creating social and economic opportunity by connecting low-income families to affordable internet service and computers, and delivering digital skills training.<\/p>\n<h3>Student Relief Fund<\/h3>\n<p>The Student Relief Fund is a joint collaboration to support students with information and resources. If you are a college student currently in need of support because of a COVID-19 campus shutdown, you can submit a request. Please note, they cannot offer financial assistance via this website. Instead, they will work with you to identify resources and solutions to help.<\/p>\n<h3>Student Universe Cancellation Policies<\/h3>\n<p>Student Universe has gathered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentuniverse.com\/airline-travel-alerts\">list<\/a> of their 220+ airline partners cancellation policies to make it easier for students to be kept updated on already-booked flights.<\/p>\n<h3>CVS and Walgreens<\/h3>\n<p>CVS and <a href=\"https:\/\/news.walgreens.com\/press-releases\/general-news\/walgreens-takes-further-action-to-support-customers-during-covid-19-pandemic.htm\">Walgreens<\/a> have waived delivery fees for eligible prescriptions. CVS is also providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cvs.com\/content\/coronavirus\">other services<\/a> such as video visits with a health care practitioner, scheduling a MinuteClinic appointment, and approving 90 days prescriptions\/early refills.<\/p>\n<h3>Temporary Assistance for Needy Families<\/h3>\n<p>The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides grant funds to states and territories to provide families with financial assistance and related support services. State-administered programs may include childcare assistance, job preparation, and work assistance. This program gives bi-weekly cash allowances and other crucial support services for parents who meet specific criteria. See if you qualify <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benefits.gov\/benefit\/613\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programming<\/h3>\n<p>If you are low-income, you may qualify for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usa.gov\/food-help#item-35787\">Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programming<\/a>. This is a little bit of a tedious, challenging process. However, it is doable and completing it will result in you getting a monthly support for groceries if you qualify.\u00a0 You can find the online application <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fns.usda.gov\/snap\/state-directory\">here<\/a> or call the SNAP Hotline at (877) 847-3663.<\/p>\n<h3>Low-cost In-person Care<\/h3>\n<p>Many base their fees on a sliding scale. Assistance can range from primary care to mental health care, dental, and OB\/GYN and is available to everyone including the uninsured and undocumented. Note that most health centers do not offer COVID-19 testing and require that you call in advance! To find the nearest health center, click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fqhc.org\/find-an-fqhc\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Healthcare<\/h3>\n<p>If you lost your job and cannot keep your employer\u2019s insurance coverage you have up to 30 days to get a plan through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/\">Healthcare Marketplace<\/a> under their special enrollment period.\u00a0If you are uninsured, are a citizen or lawful permanent resident (LPR), and meet the eligibility criteria requirements, you (and your children if applicable) may be eligible for free health insurance under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicaid.gov\/resources-for-states\/disaster-response-toolkit\/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19\/index.html\">Medicaid<\/a>. CalFresh is the new name for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in California.\u00a0 Formerly known as the Food Stamps Program, this is a federal program run through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Eligible individuals can apply for CalFresh benefits through an application process through the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services (LADPSS). Learn more about their programs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stfranciscenterla.org\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Low-Income Fare is Easy (LIFE) Program<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metro.net\/projects\/life\/\">LIFE program<\/a> provides transportation assistance to low-income individuals in LA County. LIFE offers fare subsidies that may be applied toward the purchase of passes on Metro or any LIFE participating transit agencies\u00a0<em>or\u00a0<\/em>a free regional ride option. Once enrolled, LIFE benefits can be loaded onto your TAP\u00a0 card at any participating vendor.
