{"id":4887,"date":"2010-10-05T22:36:52","date_gmt":"2010-10-06T05:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/"},"modified":"2021-12-06T16:12:06","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T00:12:06","slug":"policies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/technology-for-students\/policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Technology For Students: Policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Appropriate Use Policy for Students<\/h3>\n<p>Everyone must follow standard security practices such as maintaining password secrecy and logging out of accounts when not in use<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>use technology resources only as required in the performance of their jobs<\/li>\n<li>disclose confidential information to other staff only on a need-to know basis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Under no circumstances shall the following data be extracted and\/or stored on computer systems external to the University of La&nbsp;Verne.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social Security Numbers<\/li>\n<li>Birthdates<\/li>\n<li>Driver\u2019s License Numbers<\/li>\n<li>Credit Card Numbers<\/li>\n<li>Bank Account Numbers or Routing Information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2021\/12\/1.1-Appropriate-Use-and-Information-Security-Confidentiality-Policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See complete policy (pdf) here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Network Connectivity Policy<\/h4>\n<p>Network connectivity is a privilege and not a right. Students wishing to connect their personal computer to the university network, either physically or via wireless connection, will be required to complete (in its entirety) and sign a \u201cStudent Network Access Request\u201d form prior to connecting to the network.<\/p>\n<p>They shall sign a copy of and agree to the \u201cAppropriate Use Policy\u201d. Students violating campus network security policies or appropriate use policies risk losing this privilege.<\/p>\n<p><a (pdf) here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Passwords Security Policy<\/h4>\n<p>Passwords are assigned as a method to control and monitor access to La&nbsp;Verne campus-wide systems and information, and should never be shared with others.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are not to give others access to systems or information by providing them with your account and password.<\/li>\n<li>You can be held responsible for anything that is done by someone using your account and password even if you didn\u2019t knowingly give it to them.<\/li>\n<li>You must use strong passwords, change them regularly, and protect them from improper use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Violations of any part of this policy may result in disciplinary action as prescribed by University policies and procedures.<\/p>\n<p><a Copyright Infringement Policy<\/h4>\n<p>Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications are restricted from use on the University of La&nbsp;Verne network unless specifically authorized by the Office of Information Technology.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2021\/12\/1.8-unauthorized-access-policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See complete policy (pdf) here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Student\/Alumni Computer Account Retention Policy<\/h4>\n<p>Active students are eligible to retain their La&nbsp;Verne computer accounts as long as they follow the University\u2019s Appropriate Use and Information Security-Confidentiality Policy.<\/p>\n<p>University of La&nbsp;Verne graduates may retain their University <strong>computer accounts<\/strong> for four months after graduating while their <strong>student Gmail accounts<\/strong> will continue to work indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p><a
