{"id":5067,"date":"2010-10-11T22:09:51","date_gmt":"2010-10-12T05:09:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/"},"modified":"2018-04-19T14:51:39","modified_gmt":"2018-04-19T21:51:39","slug":"windows-7","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wireless-access-at-residence-halls\/windows-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Wireless Access at Residence Halls: Windows 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Instructions for Windows 7 (for The Oaks, Brandt, and Stu-Han Residence Halls)<\/h3>\n<p><strong>STEP 1:<\/strong> Make sure the wireless card is enabled on your laptop.\u00a0 There are two settings that could cause your wireless card to be disabled:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Most laptops have a button to disable\/enable the wireless card\u2014when enabled the button will usually be lit.<\/li>\n<li>If you are not able to connect to wireless networks, then there is a chance that the Windows operating system might have disabled your wireless network card. For the <strong>Network name:<\/strong> field, enter <em>La&nbsp;Verne Housing<\/em> (the network name is case-sensitive, so be sure to capitalize the first letters of each word)<br \/>\n2. For the <strong>Security type: <\/strong>drop-down menu, choose <strong>No authentication (Open) <\/strong><br \/>\n3. Check the box next to <strong>Start this connection automatically <\/strong><br \/>\n4. Click on the <strong>Close<\/strong> button.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_17_20Mar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5907\" title=\"ScreenHunter_17_20Mar\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_17_20Mar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_17_20Mar.jpg 630w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_17_20Mar-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 8: <\/strong>In order to verify that you are connected to the Brandt Hall or Stu-Han wireless network, click on the network connection icon <a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_18_20Mar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5908\" title=\"ScreenHunter_18_20Mar\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_18_20Mar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"30\" height=\"28\" \/><\/a> on the bottom-right corner of your laptop screen. A screenshot similar to the one below will appear stating that you are connected to &#8220;La&nbsp;Verne Housing&#8221;. Notice the yellow exclamation point next to the word &#8220;Connected&#8221;; this indicates that you need to log in to access the Internet.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_21_20Mar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5909\" title=\"ScreenHunter_21_20Mar\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_21_20Mar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_21_20Mar.jpg 287w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_21_20Mar-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another way to verify if you are connected to the Brandt Hall or Stu-Han wireless network is to click on the wireless network connection icon <a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_18_20Mar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5908\" title=\"ScreenHunter_18_20Mar\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_18_20Mar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"30\" height=\"28\" \/><\/a> on the bottom-right corner of your laptop screen, select <strong>Open Network and Sharing Center<\/strong> and it will show that you are connected (shown in the screenshot below). Notice the red &#8220;X&#8221; between La&nbsp;Verne Housing and Internet. Once you log in to the wireless network (explained in the following steps), the red &#8220;X&#8221;will go away.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_22_20Mar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5910\" title=\"ScreenHunter_22_20Mar\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/ScreenHunter_22_20Mar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"628\" height=\"460\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 9: <\/strong>Open a web browser so your computer can go to the Login web page. If your browser does not automatically go to the Login web page, please type in any website address and press Enter. Enter your University of La&nbsp;Verne e-mail username and password and click on <strong>Submit<\/strong>. For example, if your e-mail address is &#106;&#111;&#104;n&#46;&#115;mi&#116;h&#64;&#108;&#97;&#118;ern&#101;.edu, then enter john.smith in the User Name box.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5912\" title=\"vista-login-page\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page2.jpg 681w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page2-300x253.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>STEP 10: <\/strong> When you have successfully logged in, a pop-up window will appear with a Logout button.\u00a0Your computer will stay logged in up to 12 hours unless you log out.<\/p>\n<p>Note: you can be logged in on up to three computers at the same time with the same e-mail username&#8211;if you are already concurrently logged in on three computers, and you try to login on a fourth computer using the same e-mail username, you will not be able to log in on that fourth computer (and no error message will appear).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-pop-up.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5913\" title=\"vista-pop-up\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-pop-up.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"407\" height=\"575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-pop-up.jpg 407w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-pop-up-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 11: <\/strong>When you click the Logout button, you will get a message shown in the screenshot below.
