{"id":5071,"date":"2010-10-11T22:14:23","date_gmt":"2010-10-12T05:14:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/"},"modified":"2018-04-19T14:53:42","modified_gmt":"2018-04-19T21:53:42","slug":"windows-xp","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wireless-access-at-residence-halls\/windows-xp\/","title":{"rendered":"Wireless Access at Residence Halls: Windows XP"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Instructions for Windows XP (for The Oaks, Brandt, and Stu-Han Residence Halls)<\/h3>\n<p><strong>STEP 1: <\/strong>Make sure the wireless card is enabled on your laptop.\u00a0 There are two settings that could cause your wireless card to be disabled:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Most laptops have a button to disable\/enable the wireless card\u2014when enabled the button will usually be lit.<\/li>\n<li>If you are not able to connect to wireless networks, then there is a chance that the Windows operating system might have disabled your wireless network card. Here are the steps to check if your wireless network card is disabled by the Windows XP operating system:\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Click <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Control Panel <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Network and Internet Connections<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Network Connections<\/strong> (this is listed under &#8220;or pick a Control Panel icon&#8221; on the lower half of the screen).<\/li>\n<li>Look for the <strong>Wireless Network Connection <\/strong>icon, if the line underneath shows &#8220;<strong>Not Connected<\/strong>&#8221; or &#8220;<strong>Connected<\/strong>&#8220;, then your wireless network card is already enabled, but if it shows &#8220;<strong>Disabled<\/strong>&#8220;, then right-click on your wireless network card and select <strong>&#8220;Enable&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nSTEP 2: <\/strong>Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection icon and select <strong>Open Network Connections<\/strong>, which will open the Network Connections window. For the <strong>Network name (SSID):<\/strong> field, enter <em>La&nbsp;Verne Housing<\/em> (the network name is case-sensitive, so be sure to capitalize the first letters of each word)<br \/>\n2. Check the box next to <strong>Connect even if this network is not broadcasting<\/strong>.<br \/>\n3. When you are connected, the Wireless Network Connection icon will not have an &#8220;X&#8221; over it. If you put your mouse pointer over the icon, it will show that you are connected (Status: Connected).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/xp-connected1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5942\" title=\"xp-connected\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/xp-connected1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"36\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/xp-verified.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5943\" title=\"xp-verified\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/xp-verified.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"88\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 10: <\/strong>Open a web browser so your computer can go to the Login web page. If your browser does not automatically go to the Login web page, please type in any website address and press Enter.<\/p>\n<p>Enter your University of La&nbsp;Verne e-mail username and password and click on <strong>Submit<\/strong>.
