Instructions for Windows XP<\/h3>\n

STEP 1: <\/strong>Make sure the wireless card is enabled on your laptop.\u00a0 There are two settings that could cause your wireless card to be disabled:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Most laptops have a button to disable\/enable the wireless card\u2014when enabled the button will usually be lit.<\/li>\n
  2. If you are not able to connect to wireless networks, then there is a chance that the Windows operating system might have disabled your wireless network card. Here are the steps to check if your wireless network card is disabled by the Windows XP operating system:\n
      \n
    1. Click Start <\/strong>> Control Panel <\/strong>> Network and Internet Connections<\/strong> > Network Connection<\/strong> s<\/strong> (this is listed under “or pick a Control Panel icon” on the lower half of the screen).<\/li>\n
    2. Look for the Wireless Network Connection <\/strong>icon, if the line underneath shows “Not Connected<\/strong>” or “Connected<\/strong>“, then your wireless network card is already enabled, but if it shows “Disabled<\/strong>“, then right-click on your wireless network card and select “Enable”<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


      \nSTEP 2: <\/strong>Browse the available wireless networks by moving your mouse cursor over the wireless connection icon on the bottom-right corner of your laptop screen and click on the pop-up balloon.

      \nSTEP 3: <\/strong>Select “University of La Verne Wireless” and click on the Connect<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

      \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n


      \nSTEP 4: <\/strong>If you see the pop-up window as shown below, click on the Connect Anyway<\/strong> button.
      \n      \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

      <\/strong><\/p>\n

      STEP 5: <\/strong>Your laptop should now be connected to the University of La Verne Wireless (notice the word “Connected<\/strong>” shown in the screenshot below)

      \nSTEP 6: <\/strong>Open a web browser so your laptop can go through the Network Admission Control process. If your browser does not automatically go to a default web page, please type in any website address. Your web browser will automatically be redirected to the Network Admission Control login page. There are some minor differences in the Network Admission Control process between using the Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox web browsers–the differences are mentioned below.<\/p>\n

      \nInternet Explorer <\/strong>users will see this screen (the Network Admission Control system uses ActiveX technology for Internet Explorer).
      \n      \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

      (Optional) Internet Explorer<\/strong> users might see the screen below; click on the horizontal bar where it states “This site might require the following ActiveX control: ‘Cisco Clean Access Web Login Facilitator’ from ‘Cisco Systems’. Click here to install…<\/strong>“, then select Install ActiveX Control…<\/strong> as shown below. A pop-up box will then appear asking “Do you want to install this software?”<\/strong>, click on the Install <\/strong>button to continue.

      \nMozilla Firefox<\/strong> users will see this screen (the Network Admission Control system uses Java technology for Mozilla Firefox).
      \n      \"\"<\/a>
      \nMozilla Firefox<\/strong> users will also see this screen, click on the Run<\/strong> button.
      \n      \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

      STEP 7: <\/strong>You should now see the Network Admission Control login page. Enter your University of La Verne e-mail username and password and click on Continue<\/strong>. For example, if your e-mail address is john.smith@laverne.edu, then enter john.smith in the Username box.<\/p>\n

      Also, if you see Too many users using this account<\/strong> (shown in the second screenshot below), check the box Remove the older user session<\/strong> and click Continue<\/strong>.

      STEP 8: <\/strong>Click on the Launch Cisco NAC Web Agent 4.1.6.0<\/strong> button.
      \n      \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

      (Optional) Internet Explorer<\/strong> users may see the screenshot below, click on the horizontal bar that states “This site might require the following ActiveX control: ‘taweb.cab’ from ‘Cisco Systems’. Click here to install…<\/strong>, and then select Install ActiveX Control…<\/strong> as shown below. A pop-up box will then appear (shown in the second screenshot below)–click on the Retry<\/strong> button. A pop-up box will then appear asking “Do you want to install this software?” <\/strong>as shown in the third screenshot below, click on the Install <\/strong>button to continue.<\/p>\n

      STEP 9: <\/strong>You should see the screenshot below.<\/p>\n

      STEP 10: <\/strong>If your laptop has up-to-date antivirus software and Windows security patches, and you see the three green checkmarks like the first screenshot below, click Continue<\/strong>, and go on to Step 11. Otherwise, if one of the Security Requirements did not pass (see an example in the second screenshot below) you will be given a limited amount of time to access certain websites (shown in the third screenshot below) to download antivirus definition updates and Microsoft Windows Update and security patches (go to any website within your web browser and you will automatically be redirected to that web page). Once you have downloaded and installed the antivirus and\/or Windows patches, click on Re-Scan<\/strong> button (shown in the second screenshot below).

      STEP 11: <\/strong>Click on the link Network Usage Terms & Conditions<\/strong> to review the University of La Verne network policies. Note: your laptop needs to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to view the policies. If your laptop does not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, then please click here<\/a> to get the program (which is free).
      \nWhen you are done reviewing the policies, close the window and click the Accept<\/strong> button if you agree to abide by the policies.<\/p>\n

      \nSTEP 12: <\/strong>Congratulations, you are now connected to University of La Verne Wireless network, a status windows shows the status of your connection. If pop-ups are enabled for your web browser, a new window will appear with your original requested website–otherwise click on the hyperlink to browse websites (for example, http:\/\/google.com is the hyperlink listed in the screenshot below). When you are done accessing the wireless network, click on the Logout<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

      STEP 13: <\/strong>When you clicked the Logout<\/strong> button from the previous step, a pop-up window will appear as shown in the screenshot below; click on the Yes<\/strong> button to close the window to end your session.<\/p>\n
