{"id":5101,"date":"2010-10-11T23:04:34","date_gmt":"2010-10-12T06:04:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/"},"modified":"2011-03-10T12:27:22","modified_gmt":"2011-03-10T19:27:22","slug":"instructions-for-windows-7","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wireless-access-at-regional-campuses\/instructions-for-windows-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Wireless Access at Regional Campuses: Windows 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Instructions for Windows 7 (for Regional Campuses)<\/h3>\n<p><strong>STEP 1:<\/strong> Make sure the wireless card is enabled on  your laptop.\u00a0 There are two settings that could cause your wireless card  to be disabled:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Most laptops have a button to disable\/enable the wireless card\u2014when enabled the button will usually be lit.<\/li>\n<li>If you are not able to connect to wireless networks, then  there is a chance that the Windows operating system might have disabled  your wireless network card. Here are the steps to check if your wireless  network card is disabled by the Windows 7 operating system:\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Click <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Control Panel &gt; Network and Internet <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Network and <\/strong> <strong>Sharing Center <\/strong>&gt; on the left side, under <strong>Control Panel Home<\/strong>, click on <strong>Change adapter settings.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Look for the <strong>Wireless Network Connection <\/strong>icon, if the line underneath shows &#8220;<strong>Disabled<\/strong>&#8220;, then right-click on your wireless network card and select <strong>&#8220;Enable&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong> STEP 2: <\/strong>Browse the available wireless networks by moving your mouse cursor over the wireless connection icon <a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_ScreenHunter_05_20Feb.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5823\" title=\"rca-instructions-windows-7_ScreenHunter_05_20Feb\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_ScreenHunter_05_20Feb.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"31\" height=\"38\" \/><\/a> on the bottom-right corner of your laptop screen, a small box will appear that says <strong>&#8220;Not connected &#8211; Connections are available&#8221;<\/strong>. Now click on the wireless connection icon <a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_ScreenHunter_05_20Feb1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5824\" title=\"rca-instructions-windows-7_ScreenHunter_05_20Feb\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_ScreenHunter_05_20Feb1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"31\" height=\"38\" \/><\/a> and a list of wireless network connections will be displayed as shown in the screenshot below.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nSTEP 3: <\/strong>Select &#8220;University of La&nbsp;Verne Wireless&#8221;. You can check <strong>Connect automatically <\/strong> so your laptop can automatically connect to the &#8220;University of La&nbsp;Verne  Wireless&#8221; network when it is within range. Then click on the <strong>Connect<\/strong> button.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_Wireless203.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5825\" title=\"rca-instructions-windows-7_Wireless203\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_Wireless203.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"443\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nSTEP 4: <\/strong>A window will appear showing you are connecting to the &#8220;University of La&nbsp;Verne Wireless&#8221; network.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/Conecting-Wireless.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5826\" title=\"Conecting Wireless\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/Conecting-Wireless.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/Conecting-Wireless.png 429w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/Conecting-Wireless-300x159.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><\/a> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 5: <\/strong>If you click on the wireless connection icon on the  bottom-right corner of your laptop screen, a window similar to the one  below will be displayed saying that you are currently connected to  &#8220;University of La&nbsp;Verne Wireless&#8221;. Notice the yellow exclamation point  next to the word &#8220;Connected&#8221;; this indicates that you need to log in to  access the Internet.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_Wireless_20List_20connected.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5827\" title=\"rca-instructions-windows-7_Wireless_20List_20connected\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca-instructions-windows-7_Wireless_20List_20connected.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"442\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 6: <\/strong>Open a web browser so your computer can go to the Login web page. If your browser does not automatically go to the Login web page, please type in any website address and press Enter.  Enter your University of La&nbsp;Verne e-mail username and password and click  on <strong>Submit<\/strong>. For example, if your e-mail address is &#106;o&#104;&#110;&#46;smi&#116;&#104;&#64;l&#97;ve&#114;&#110;e.e&#100;u, then enter john.smith in the User Name box.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5828\" title=\"rca_vista1\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"708\" height=\"569\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista1.jpg 708w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista1-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 708px) 100vw, 708px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>STEP 7: <\/strong>When you have successfully logged in, a pop-up window will appear with a Logout button. If you do not see the pop-up window (your web browser might be set to block pop-ups), then you can go to the URL mentioned in the last paragraph on the login page (in the example shown in the previous step, the URL shown on that login page was <a href=\"https:\/\/occ.laverne.edu\/logout.html\">https:\/\/occ.laverne.edu\/logout.html<\/a> &#8212; <strong>please note that each ROC site will have a different URL to log out<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Your computer will stay logged in up to 3 hours (unless you log out by clicking the Logout button on the pop-up window or if you go to the URL specified on the login page to log out).<\/p>\n<p>Note: you can be logged in on up to one computer on the wireless network at the same time with the same e-mail username&#8211;if you are already logged in in on a computer, and you try to login on a second computer using the same e-mail username, you will not be able to log in on that second computer (and no error message will appear).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5829\" title=\"rca_vista2\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"708\" height=\"567\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista2.jpg 708w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista2-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 708px) 100vw, 708px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 8: <\/strong>When   you click the Logout button, you will get a message shown in the  screenshot below.
