{"id":5107,"date":"2010-10-11T23:08:19","date_gmt":"2010-10-12T06:08:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/"},"modified":"2011-03-10T12:27:46","modified_gmt":"2011-03-10T19:27:46","slug":"instructions-for-windows-vista","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wireless-access-at-regional-campuses\/instructions-for-windows-vista\/","title":{"rendered":"Wireless Access at Regional Campuses: Windows Vista"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Instructions for Windows Vista (for Regional Campuses)<\/h3>\n<p><strong>STEP 1:<\/strong> Make sure the wireless card is enabled on your laptop.\u00a0 There are two settings that could cause your wireless card to be disabled:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Most laptops have a button to disable\/enable     the wireless card\u2014when enabled the button will     usually be lit.<\/li>\n<li>If you are not able to connect to wireless networks, then there is a chance that the Windows operating system might have disabled your wireless network card. Here are the steps to check if your wireless network card is disabled by the Windows Vista operating system:\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Click <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Control Panel &gt; Network and Internet <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Network and <\/strong> <strong>Sharing         Center <\/strong>&gt; on the left side, under <strong>Tasks<\/strong>, click on <strong>Manage network connections.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Look for the <strong>Wireless Network Connection <\/strong>icon, if the line underneath shows <strong>&#8220;Not Connected&#8221;<\/strong> or <strong>&#8220;Connected&#8221;<\/strong>, then your wireless network card is already enabled, but if it shows &#8220;<strong>Disabled<\/strong>&#8220;, then right-click on your wireless network card and select <strong>&#8220;Enable&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong> STEP 2: <\/strong>Browse the available wireless networks by moving your mouse cursor over the wireless connection icon <a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/wlan_icon1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5833\" title=\"wlan_icon\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/wlan_icon1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"19\" height=\"24\" \/><\/a> on the bottom-right corner of your laptop screen, a small box will appear that says <strong>&#8220;Wireless networks are available&#8221; <\/strong>as shown in the first screenshot below. Now click on the wireless connection icon <a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/wlan_icon2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5834\" title=\"wlan_icon\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/wlan_icon2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"19\" height=\"24\" \/><\/a> and then click on the text <strong>&#8220;Wireless networks are available&#8221;<\/strong> as shown in the second screenshot below.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/click_on_wireless.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5835\" title=\"click_on_wireless\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/click_on_wireless.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"116\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/wlan_nw_available1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5836\" title=\"wlan_nw_available\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/wlan_nw_available1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nSTEP 3: <\/strong>Select &#8220;University of La&nbsp;Verne Wireless&#8221; and click on the <strong>Connect<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/select_ssid1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5837\" title=\"select_ssid\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/select_ssid1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"647\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/select_ssid1.jpg 647w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/select_ssid1-300x216.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 647px) 100vw, 647px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nSTEP 4: <\/strong>Click on the <strong>Connect Anyway<\/strong> button.  You will then see a screen similar to the second screenshot below.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/connect_anyway1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5838\" title=\"connect_anyway\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/connect_anyway1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"628\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/connect_anyway1.jpg 628w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/connect_anyway1-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 5: <\/strong>Your laptop should now be connected to the University of La&nbsp;Verne Wireless network. As shown in the second screenshot below, you can check <strong>Save this network<\/strong> and <strong>Start this connection automatically<\/strong> so your laptop can automatically connect to the University of La&nbsp;Verne Wireless network when it is within range. If your browser does not automatically go to the  Login web page, please type in any website address and press Enter.<\/p>\n<p>Enter your University of La&nbsp;Verne e-mail username and password and click on <strong>Submit<\/strong>. For example, if your e-mail address is &#106;&#111;&#104;n.smi&#116;&#104;&#64;l&#97;&#118;&#101;r&#110;&#101;&#46;edu, then enter john.smith in the User Name box.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5841\" title=\"vista-login-page\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page.jpg 681w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/vista-login-page-300x253.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>STEP 7: <\/strong>When you have successfully logged in, a  pop-up window will appear with a Logout button. If you do not see the  pop-up window (your web browser might be set to block pop-ups), then you  can go to the URL mentioned in the last paragraph on the login page (in  the example shown in the previous step, the URL shown on that login  page was <a href=\"https:\/\/occ.laverne.edu\/logout.html\">https:\/\/occ.laverne.edu\/logout.html<\/a> &#8212; <strong>please note that each ROC site will have a different URL to log out <\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Your computer will stay logged in up to 3 hours (unless you log out  by clicking the Logout button on the pop-up window or if you go to the  URL specified on the login page to log out).<\/p>\n<p>Note: you can be logged in on up to one computer on the wireless  network at the same time with the same e-mail username&#8211;if you are  already logged in in on a computer, and you try to login on a second  computer using the same e-mail username, you will not be able to log in  on that second computer (and no error message will appear).|<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5842\" title=\"rca_vista2\" src=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"708\" height=\"567\" srcset=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista21.jpg 708w, https:\/\/laverne.edu\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2010\/10\/rca_vista21-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 708px) 100vw, 708px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 8: <\/strong>When you click the Logout button, you will  get a message shown in the screen shot below.
