{"id":19,"date":"2018-01-16T16:19:18","date_gmt":"2018-01-17T00:19:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/military\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2024-08-27T13:50:52","modified_gmt":"2024-08-27T20:50:52","slug":"va-education-benefits","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/veterans\/va-education-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"VA Education Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>CHAPTER 33 Post 9\/11 GI Bill\u00ae<\/h2>\n<p>If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001, and are still on active duty, or if you are an honorably discharged Veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for this VA-administered program.\u00a0 For more information regarding the Post 9\/11 GI Bill\u00ae Program please <span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/post911_gibill.asp\">visit here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span>CHAPTER 33 Post 9\/11 GI Bill\u00ae Yellow Ribbon Program<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The University of La&nbsp;Verne is pleased to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which is a partnership between the University of La&nbsp;Verne and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).\u00a0 If you qualify, ULV will contribute 50% toward the amount of tuition and fees above the VA national maximum per academic year and the VA will match the contribution.<\/p>\n<p>The Veterans Administration limits eligibility to Post 9\/11 GI Bill\u00ae recipients who are rated 100%.\u00a0 For information on the Private School Tuition and Fees National Maximum Reimbursement (payment) per academic year, adjusted each year effective August 1, please <span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/resources\/benefits_resources\/rate_tables.asp\">visit here<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 Awards are given on a first-come first serve basis; however, applications will not be considered until all documentation is received.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Eligible students should check each year to insure his\/her yearly tuition (year begins on August 1) will not surpass the VA\u2019s yearly tuition cap. If you have questions regarding your tuition and reaching the cap, please check with Student Accounts at<span> <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"mailto:s&#116;&#117;a&#99;c&#116;s&#64;&#108;av&#101;rn&#101;.ed&#117;\">stua&#99;&#99;&#116;&#115;&#64;l&#97;&#118;e&#114;n&#101;.&#101;du<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 If you qualify and need tuition assistance from the Yellow Ribbon Program, submit the online Application for Yellow Ribbon <span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/veterans\/forms\/\">located here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span>Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The <span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/education\/other-va-education-benefits\/stem-scholarship\/\">Edith Nourse Rogers Science Technology Engineering Math<\/a><\/span> (STEM) Scholarship allows some eligible Veterans and dependents in high-demand fields to extend their Post-9\/11 GI Bill or Fry Scholarship benefits.<\/p>\n<h2>CHAPTER 35 Survivors\u2019 and Dependents\u2019 Educational Assistance Program<\/h2>\n<p>The Survivors\u2019 and Dependents\u2019 Educational Assistance (DEA) program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. For more detailed information please <span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"http:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/GIBILL\/DEA.asp\">visit this link<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The VA pays the student directly, therefore participants are required to make a minimum 30% down payment, pay a deferred payment fee of $50 (if not paid in full) and make payment arrangements with the Office of Student Accounts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>CHAPTER 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&amp;E)<\/h2>\n<p>If you have a VA disability rating of 10% or more, you may receive VRE services to help with job training, academic\/education counseling, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching.\u00a0 You are encouraged to explore utilizing VRE for your undergraduate degree well before exhausting your 9\/11.\u00a0 As long as you have remaining 9\/11 you will be eligible to opt for 9\/11 MHA while using VRE.\u00a0\u00a0For more information and eligibility from the VA, please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/careers-employment\/vocational-rehabilitation\/\"><span>visit here<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 When at this site, note the <em>Eligibility<\/em> and <em>How to Apply<\/em> links on the left.<\/p>\n<p>Once accepted into the VRE program , discuss your options with your VR&amp; E Counselor.\u00a0 To request assistance in completing a VRE Academic Worksheet, with Education Plan and costs, email Military Academic Advising: \u00a0<span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"mailto:a&#100;&#118;i&#115;&#105;&#110;g&#109;&#105;l&#105;&#116;ar&#121;&#64;&#108;a&#118;&#101;&#114;n&#101;&#46;ed&#117;\">&#97;&#100;vis&#105;n&#103;&#109;i&#108;&#105;&#116;&#97;ry&#64;&#108;a&#118;er&#110;&#101;&#46;&#101;&#100;&#117;.<\/a><\/span>\u00a0 For additional information, please also view <a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/veterans\/faq\/\"><span>New to La&nbsp;Verne: Get Started<\/span><\/a> (Scroll down to Chapter 31).<\/p>\n<h2>Montgomery GI Bill\u00ae<\/h2>\n<p>The Montgomery GI Bill\u00ae (MGIB) is available to those who enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces. There are two main programs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/mgib_ad.asp\">Montgomery GI Bill\u00ae Active Duty (MGIB-AD)<\/a>: <\/span>Often referred to as Chapter 30, and is for active duty members who enroll and pay $100 per month for 12 months and are then entitled to receive a monthly education benefit once they have completed a minimum service obligation.<\/li>\n<li><span><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/mgib_sr.asp\">Montgomery GI Bill\u00ae Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)<\/a><\/span><strong>:<\/strong> Often referred to as Chapter 1606, and is for Reservists with a six-year obligation in the Selected Reserve who are actively drilling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The VA pays the student directly, therefore Montgomery GI Bill\u00ae participants are required to make a minimum 30% down payment, pay a deferred payment fee of $50 (if not paid in full) and make payment arrangements with the Office of Student Accounts. Note: In order to receive payment, students will be required to verify their enrollment at the end of each month they attended classes\/training by contacting the VA at 877.823.2378 or logging into
