The men’s soccer team is looking to be a contender for the conference title this year following a heartbreaking end to last year’s season when the team missed the playoffs by one game.
The softball team’s long and difficult SCIAC season came to an end this weekend for the Leopards, going 1-2 with losses to Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and a win over Whittier.
La Verne suffered a pair of losses over the weekend against Redlands and Whittier. The Bulldogs dominated the Leopards at the Claremont Club on Friday, 9-0, and the Poets continued dominance on Saturday, winning 7-2.
La Verne continued its eight game winning streak against Whittier on Saturday beating the Poets 3-0 in game one and 8-4 in game two.
Senior pitcher Mark Larini did now allow a rainy afternoon to affect his performance as he pitched an outstanding two-hit complete game shutout against Whittier last Friday at Ben Hines Field.
The rain started in the fourth inning and did not let up last Friday at Ben Hines Field, cutting La Verne’s home conference opener short and handing them a 2-1 loss to Redlands.
Coming off one of their most heartbreaking losses of the season, the Leopards came out with full force and dismantled the Whittier Poets, 49-23.
An exciting second half led to a final score of 3-1 as the men’s soccer team fell to the visiting Whittier Poets last Saturday at Ben Hines Field.
The Leopards improved to 7-14 after defeating the Whittier Poets, 79-71, on Wednesday night.
